Our castration cost of £370 (standing) or £435 (knock-down e.g. Shetlands or more difficult cases) include the following:

- Procedure including anaesthetic/additional medication

- 4x sachets of Equipalazone

- Tetanus anti-toxin vaccine for immediate protection (REQUIRED IF THE HORSE HAS HAD NO PREVIOUS VACCINES)

- HPA Passport and chip (required if the horse is not yet passported)

- Equilis TE – This is a tetanus vaccine and the 1st in a primary course of 3. If you would prefer to start on a course of Flu and Tetanus there is an additional charge of £22.75. 

To save additional costs we reccomend scheduling in your horses 1st vaccine before your castration is due, with the second at least 21 days later (this can be given at the castration appointment with no need for additional Tetanus Anti-Tox). 

Where possible, please upload evidence of your horses vaccines if they have been completed and are in date. 

Pre and post-operative information

I am the owner (or owner's agent) of the above animal, and I understand that a castration is an elective surgical procedure that may involve complications such as swelling, omental herniation, haemorrhage, infection and very rarely peritonitis or evisceration.

I understand that swelling and discharge can be normal after the surgery, but it is my responsibility to contact the practice about any concerns as soon as they arise.

- I understand the veterinary surgeon will use sedation and analgesia for the procedure, but postoperative antibiotics are not routinely prescribed.

- The veterinary surgeon will explain to me that I am responsible for post-operative care, which may include stabling the horse for 24-48hrs after surgery (the horse must be able to be shut in) and performing walking exercises to aid in reducing swelling. I understand it is my responsibility to mitigate risk of infection from contamination of the surgical site from environmental factors such as mud or flies.

- I am aware that risk of postoperative complications are increased for horses over the age of 3 years, or if they have previously covered.

- I will ensure that on the day of the surgery my horse will be presented clean and in an adequate facility which provides shelter and lighting, and I will ensure the veterinary surgeon has access to clean water so they can perform the procedure. 

- I accept it is my responsibility to follow the veterinary surgeon's advice, and I am responsible for the aftercare of my horse after surgery. Not following vet advice can be detrimental to your horses recovery.

I have been informed, and accept, that I must pay the full sum of £370.00 at the time of booking my horses surgery for a standing castration. In the event of a knock-down castration, I accept the sum to increase to £435.00. This cost includes sedation, local anaesthetic (Lidor) and injectable pain relief. 

In addition to this, I accept that if my horse is not vaccinated or the vaccines have expired, then I will be required to pay and additional £50.40 for tetanus anti-toxin plus  the charge for the cost of my chosen vaccine for my horses primary course (Tetanus or Flu and Tetanus) at the time of confirming my booking. 

If required, antibiotics and post-operative pain relief are not included in this cost and will be chargeable at an additional sum. 

In the event that the veterinary surgeon cannot proceed with the surgery due to the horse being unwell, unhandleable, not having both testicles fully descended or likewise reasons I understand I will still be charged, at least, a visit and examination fee. Should any follow up treatments arise from complications, the treatments are to be paid for, in full, by myself.
